14 May E26 Update

Yesterday we stopped by at a wonderful Smokehouse (there are plenty all the way along this coast).  This particular one was recommended by a local campervanner that we met in Kivik.  Having announced ourselves as being from Scotland the owners eyes lit up and he proceeded to tell us about his passion for whisky!

Well, this led to him giving us a full tour of the smoke house and after wards he proudly showed us his private collection of whisky.  You might be thinking “so what’ at this stage!  I can tell you this was the BEST collection of whisky that we have ever seen and consisted of 100’s of bottles of whisky from every distillery in Scotland over the last 5 decades!  All the bottles were neatly laid out in order, age and origin creating effectively a ‘whiskey library’.  We were impressed!

Aside from purchasing some lovely cold smoked salmon, Gravalax sauce and a delicious ‘open shrimp sandwich’ (see below) we were also given as a gift, additional packets of various smoked fish including a hefty slice of hot smoked Baltic eel.  This was truly sublime and something we have not eaten before.

The photo below is typical of the ‘Rastplatser’ (rest and picnic areas) provided at frequent intervals along all major roads in Sweden.  Campervans are allowed to stay overnight for free and many of these sites have dedicated facilities for toilet waste disposal as well as normal toilets.  We stayed here last night, it was quiet and well light.
