8 May E21 Kåseberga

Near the village of Kåseberga is Swedens largest ‘Stone Ship’ solar calendar.  This is a set of standing stones laid out as a ship with the stern and bow stones orientated towards the mid winter sunrise and mid summer sunset (zoom in for more detail, or Google Ales Stenar)

The ‘ship’ is 67 metres long and consists of 59 large boulders sited on a hill top by the sea.  It is believed to have been built by the Vikings about 1200 years ago.  The stones indicate the sunrise and sunset throughout the year and even allow for leap years!

They’re quite big!

And we discovered that after visiting the stones one is empowered with the ability to mesmerise sheep!!
