18 June E68 Trondheim Cycle Lift !

Now one thing in Trondheim that really did capture our imagination was the ‘Trampe’, the worlds ONLY cycle lift.  It was there………. so we HAD to have a go on it (actually about a dozen times or so hehe)…. It travels up a steep hill from the Gamle Bybro towards Kristiansten Fort.

1/.   Read the instructions….

2/.   Balance precariously on the Right leg and adopt the ‘brace’ position….

P1180418

3/.   And whoosh!  a blunt metal wedge comes out of the track slot and pushes you up the hill at a steady pace.  The trick is to stand on one’s Right leg and lean forward while trying to balance and steer the bike at the same time time…… Easy! haha!

P1180420

Grahame’s turn….

P1180391

Right foot on the ‘travel wedge’ (it pops up out of the slot and IS as narrow as it looks)

P1180423

Wahay! halfway up….

P1180394

nearly to the top….

P1180400

Oh yes! made it to the top without falling off….

P1180401

We really enjoyed this cycle lift.  It is free to use (we’d willingly pay for it!) although it does take a few trips to really master the technique.  We certainly felt as if we had our exercise for the day as it uses a surprising amount of muscles to keep up with the moving wedge.  If you have ever tried water skiing or windsurfing you will be familiar with the effort and dexterity required!
