I forgot to say that a few days ago when were were in the South of Ölund we stumbled upon (almost literally!) a 'Huggorm' or 'striking serpent' (common Viper snake). It was about 3 feet long, well camouflaged and certainly gave Kate a scare! (she really really does not like snakes). I just noticed it about 2 steps ahead of where we were about to walk through the grass. They are not usually life threatening but a bite would hurt a bit!
Then this morning just as were about to leave the lakeside, a German photographer pulled up in his van and proceeded to tell us of the Brown bear that had been ransacking fruit boxes 5 kilometres along the track last night! And if that was not enough, how about the mother bear that attacked a walker last week in the same area! Unfortunately she was shot dead by the police (and her two cubs) and the walker spent a few days in hospital.
Scandanavia? Safe as houses! haha
