After leaving Tromsø we spotted this impressive snow melt waterfall…..(look for Kate!)
Kate put this in because she just loves the man in the Trilby hat…… (she has yet to photograph the cyclist in a flat cap sign!)
On Sunday we passed through the village of Lyngseidet, this is their beautiful wooden Lutheren church built in 1741
inside we had a whistle stop tour (in between Confirmations) and were told about this 'waking hammer’ which was used to wake up members of the congregation who had fallen asleep by tapping them on the head! These devices were in use until 1872
The young chap in the centre was ‘confirmed’ today and these are members of his family in various traditional costume. From left to right…… a local costume, a Sami (Lapland) and two national costumes, green for country folk and blue for townsfolk.
A very old wooden log cabin…..
The view back to Lyngseidet from the ferry. The lady in the green dress told us that the snowfall was very heavy during March and April and they still go skiing (which they are doing today after church!)
Mountains, snow, a fjord and a lovely little traditional boat…..
Close up of the boat…. a Norland Færing (they go back 100’s of years)
and lastly another shameless photo of even more mountains and sea (we stopped here for lunch)
