The road climbing out of Alta gave us our first view of the Arctic Tundra as we crossed this plateau which is mostly above 1200ft. It spread across the horizon for miles and miles and apart from the odd car there is nobody else……….no noise, no people, no buildings…….
Could not resist an ‘Arctic Phoon’! (haven’t phoned for ages, this one’s rather good I think!)
In amongst the vast open plain was this little Sami church…...
Beautiful in its simplicity…...
Now you may wonder why the next 2 photos are of road signs. Well, the first one indicates a very steep slope…...
and the second one shows where the steep slope goes……… 212 metres downhill UNDER the sea! (just under 7km in length)
and lastly this was our first view towards Nordkapp, the target and furthermost North of this ‘Scandawegia tour'
